15) Name one major reason for the change in activity or size.
More responsible directors, especially publicity and SIG's
lack of interest
Offering more groups.
Publicizing coming SIG topics
Many members have not been renewing. We are currently working on boosting membership by expanding member benefits and services.
We eliminated the fee to attend the SIG's and made it free with the yearly membership dues. The dues increased by $5.00. Only one person left as a result of this change (That we are aware of).
starting up SIGs as requested by members & better
communication with our membership regarding
the new & old SIGs
publicizing the meetings via newsletter and web site
Everyone uses a computer 8 hours per day and doesn't want to make it
a hobby, thus, no one wants to attend a meeting.
I think the Internet takes away membershp since people now have another very good source of information.
No SIG's (yet)
We have just taken large space for SIG meeting and will have more room to hold them in the future. Our old room dictated how many could attend.
SIG Chair involvment
no SIGs
Lack of meeting spaces
I wish I knew.
Attendees & otherscite "time constraints" as the reason for reduced attendance.
We are in the process of restructuring our offerings to be more "accessible" to individuals.
More and more of our members are outside the state. Only 20% of members are in Arizona, much less the Phoenix area.
No SIG groups yet
More members, better targeting towards their needs and applying that knowledge to the general meetings.
More SIGs because a few members decided to give something
back to the group.
New Leadership
I believe that Win95 had a lot to do with the change in membership...You know..when machines used to boot up to the C prompt, things were different, and then also people now get help over the net, and don't feel the user group is as important as it once was.
More excitement in recruiting members
Change in meeting location
Growing interest in topics
More active leadership
Lack of interest
Outreach projects such as radio program, boot camps, meeting notices in all local media, 3000 copies of our 16 page tabloid newspaper.
Former membership chairman's wife was very ill and finally died, and the new one to take over has not been sending out renewal notices as dependably as the former one
We have added one more Sig. Attandance at all sig meetings remains stable, except for internet sig which has increased
I am going out and talking to other groups about this one. We are a CTEC and I mention the group in EVERY class.
More variety. Addition of a Genealogy SIG, MS Office SIG, Web Site Construction SIG and Quicken SIG
Internet Topics
Well-organised SIG leaders
Introduction of courses > increase.
Better Programs and out of area Vendors
Programs, Promotion, People
Problems within group, no specified topics or planned demonstrations due to illness of officer responsible.
Increase to membership - more advertising. Decrease in SIGs people with other things to do SIGs of no interest. Internet SIG only popular one.
New appealing SIGS, publicity.
We're trying to figure out why.
Introduction of the iMac computer.
Newer leaders with better programs
New Location
Lack of volunteers
We are a small group and like it that way
Free Classes
New members who are new to computing
Improved equipment and facility
Momentum
Unable to get presentations that interest enough people,
had 3 vendors bail at the last minute last 2 years
Vendors not supporting SIGs, several SIG leaders have
been offended by vendor behavor.
Members not renewing
we have open a new training center in June
No Change!
This is Hawaii,
nothing ever changes.
That why we live here.
Lack of volunteers to promote and conduct meetings
E-Mail Notification
It seems that most people are not into a user group mode to learn about computers. They just aren't as social minded as before! My opinion!
Scope of SIGs and changing areas of interest
Based on current interest, we have lost
some SIGs, but they were replaced by others.
